Default Marvin Eder Workout

Anyone know if this is the workout that Marvin Eder did? I found it on the web...

Quote:
Marvin Eder Workout

Day One:
Overhead Press
Dips
Squats
Snatches
Abs

Day Two:
Bench Press
Chins
Deadlifts
Calf Raises

Notes: Train consistently and use whatever set and rep scheme you feel comfortable with. It could be one or two sets to failure, 5 x 5, singles, doubles, triples - anything you want, so long as you're consistent and work hard. Add weight to the bar whenever possible and get lots of rest, eat good food and drink plenty of water.

I also found this...

Quote:
Squats
Incline Bench Press
Pullups
Military Press
BB Curls
Pullover and Press (with EZ Curl Bar)

All exercises done for 3x5. I don't know whether this means two warmup sets and one top set, or if all three sets are work sets, and the warmup sets aren't listed. (So possibly the sets would be 5x5 per Reg.)

If it's true, Eder did close to a 5x5, possibly with a couple of warmup sets. I doubt he only did one working set.

According to David Gentle:

"Eder used many routines over the years. Enjoyed Olympic lifting best perhaps, the standing press now an exercise or lift rarely practiced, yet his favorite exercise. For bodybuilding he mainly trained on the split routine system of 2 days with 3rd day resting. Usually using 5 sets of 10 reps, always very heavy poundages e.g.

Day 1 - five sets of 10 reps dumbbell laterals using 120lb dumbbells (unlocked elbows), 5 x 10 seated dumbbell curls same 120lb dumbbells. Ditto bench presses and triceps curls (5 x 10 120lb dumbbells) followed by lat machine pulldowns 5 x 10 x 350 lbs.

Day 2 - exercises for abdominals, sit ups plus added resistance i.e. 5 x 15 plus 50 lbs. He once completed 1 00 reps sit-ups with lbs. added. High repetitions on calf machine 5 x 50 reps and parallel squats 5 x I 0 x 475lbs. " He could squat 10 x 8 x 475lbs. and make 3 reps with 520lbs or 50 repetitions with 300lbs on parallel squats!"
Eder's workouts were more unconventional because he "never took weight off the stand in the conventional way. I would clean the weight to my shoulders and then do the heavy presses. I worked up to repetition presses with 340 pounds. I bench pressed over 500 pounds, deep-knee bends for repetitions with 550 pounds and side laterals with 120-pound dumbbells. The laterals were not done with perfect form mind you."

50 repetitions with 300lbs on parallel squats!

Marvin Eder, Super Iron Game Athlete, has been long recognized the world over--pound for pound, as one of the greatest and strongest men ever in the realm of human strength. His feats of incredible muscular power with a magnificent physique will remain legendary in the records of the Iron Game History.

At a bodyweight of 190-200 pounds he performed:

- Olympic press - 335 lbs.
- Press behind neck - 305 lbs.
- Side press, left hand - 220 lbs.
- Press up on parallel bars with 434 lbs.
- Bench press - 515 lbs.
- Still arm pullovers - 250 lbs.
- 80 "wide arm" chins - 8 reps with 200 lbs.
- Plus many more extraordinary feats of strength.

I witnessed an incident that illustrated the amazing natural strength of Marvin Eder year ago at the R&J heath club in Brooklyn, NY. Eder hadn't trained in years, but stopped by the gym to say hello to Jules Levine, the gym owner. Eder, dressed in his plumber's uniform, went over to a 315 pound Olympic bar, then cleaned and pressed it as if it weighed nothing. And this was after many years of not training. Artie Zeller was a close friend of Eder, and Zeller used to tell me stories about Eder's amazing natural strength. He was far stronger "clean," than others who are using prodigious amounts of steroids and other drugs.
