I have immense respect for people who can, and who choose to do that.

I also believe quite firmly that not everyone should necessarily make that same decision.

Risk/reward, basically. But that depends on: a) how highly you value said [potential] reward(s); and b) what you are [potentially] willing to sacrifice for the sake of said reward(s).

For someone whose life revolves around powerlifting (or olympic lifting, or pro bodybuilding, say), I can totally understand the motivation, and the choice many make, to just risk it anyway (because "it's worth it").

For someone who simply wants to be stronger/bigger/whatever - like me, say! - I can't see any good reason why they'd want to risk things getting seriously worse (possibly permanently so), all for the sake of, what, a few pounds/kilos on some lifts, maybe even a fraction of an inch off the thighs or something, at worst?

Here's an example of what I mean...

Just recently, I managed to injure my back. Sure, I could have chosen to work through that, but wow am i glad I didn't. Now I'm back to lifting, and even deadlifts aren't causing any issues, so - maybe the right choice for me (guess I'll never know for sure, lol).

Don't get me wrong though - when I hear about guys doing this "crazy" stuff, I'm amazed, and yeah, in a good way. Kudos.

Lifting will do nothing for Tate. He owns a business, has not competed in years. Just cant stand being weak. But lets be realistic, he has the best doctors money can buy on his side.....I doubt any of us have that going for us

Took my mom 8 weeks just to walk up the stairs confidently after her hip surgery.

Dave Tate is an elite athlete. They seem to bounce back faster than the rest of us. I call this the Ray Lewis effect.

There is nothing healthy or sane with what he is doing, but I can relate to why he is doing it.
