Well Mike I think that there are SO many fad techniques out there from well meaning and generally unqualified people that whatever is the "latest" is consumed first...

You mentioned here yourself that you had to research it, its not as widespread because its not front and center like it used to be. I am hoping that my participation on forums like these and through my website and hard working and dedicated people such as yourself we can bring periodization and its fantastic benefits to the forefront.

Guys like Eric Spoto are showing that with periodization you can accomplish tremendous results....

Not to blab on but I also think that people have the false assumption of periodization and "meet" and "competition" within the same frame of mind... meaning the general strength enthusiast may not see the "why" in that type of training. Make sense?
