The iron is there during my times of happiness, sadness and anger. The iron is there available through the 4 seasons and inclement weather. The iron is there to either comfort me or motivate me. The Iron manages to show me how strong I am or how humble I need to be. The iron does not yell, but it always demands respect. The iron is not a disciplinarian, but when disrespected, I feel it for a long time. The iron does not love or hate, but we definitely share a strong bond. And no matter how far I stay away or for how long, the iron is there, waiting to be lifted.

A weird workout. Zero strength on deads, but noticeable improvement on fronties. No rhyme or reason to it.

Deadlifts

160 (350) X 2
200 (442) X 1
230 (507) X 1
Straps on
230 (507) X 1
230 (507) X 1
230 (507) X 1

Front squats

Not expecting too much after the performance on deadlifts, but these were good. All felt solid, and the 145 (320) X 2 was tough but comfortable

60 (132) X 5
100 (221) X 3
120 (265) X 3
Belt on
140 (308) X 2
145 (320) X 2

Reverse hypers and hypers

These are exercises that never go well. I wish we had decent machines for these. As things stand, it was a lot of fannying around for not much reward. A lower back pump and squashed gonads were the main effects.
Tann I was watching a vid a while back and He made the claim all problems with deads start off the floor, made sense. Having trouble with lockouts can be from starting with a rounded upper back which leads to no leverage to finish the top of the lift. The fix is to start the pull with a flat back this may or may not make otf a little tougher but easier to fix.

Reverse hypers/ GHR's rule. Sounds like you need to either switch exercises or add resistance with some protective gear.

230kg no strength, that's crazy talk.

Nice Front Squats!

Thanks Babs. S'okay about the gonads. I'm aiming to slowly phase them out anyway.

I used to love hypers, but the equipment in my gym just doesn't fit my design.

OK, I'll try even harder to not round my upper back at the start. Thanks. I do want to keep the reverse hypers if I can. So I'll try again.

It's always nice to pull over 500, but it was only a few weeks back I pullled a comfortable 553, and I really want to be moving closer to 600. Never satisfied, you know how it is.

Thursday

OK session. Press strength down, but chins strength up. My waist size has gone back up a little bit, but oddly I seemed to have lost some fat on my upper back (see pic).

Standing Press

Needed to get five reps on set one to be making progress, but there you go. I'm maintaining strength at least. shoulder injury flared up so I couldn't do a secondary movement.

82.5 (182) X 4
82.5 (182) X 3
82.5 (182) X 3
82.5 (182) X 3
82.5 (182) X 3

Medium grip chins

Good. I've put about 4 lbs back on, and on top of this the first time I've used weight on medium grip chins.

Bodyweight + 5 (11) x 8
Bodyweight + 5 (11) x 7
Bodyweight x 7
Bodyweight x 5

Cybex chest-supported row

Added for some TUT. Lasted about 30s.

57 (126) X 15 + 6 partials

Cybex chest press

This is my chest hypertrophy workout, so no interest in weights, just about tension. Strange that I can't use much weight on the cybex compared to free weights

91 (200) X 11 + 6 partials (30s)
91 (200) X 7 + 3 + 2 +1 myoreps

Flyes

28 (61) X 8
28 (61) X 8 + 3

Thanks Nic. I'm 5'7" on a really good day and 213 (15stone 3lbs, 96kg).

Friday

There is a strongman contest at the gym on Sunday. They had a car deadlift set up - cool! I'd never seen one before, so I had to have a go. It was pretty easy the way it was set up and felt like about 180kg. They are doing max reps in 60s.

Squats

I was popping outside and messing outside doing car deadlifts between sets, so I'd really lost focus by the last set. Form better than last week, but no strength increase.

Warm ups
140 (308) X 3
160 (353) X 3
170 (375) X 3
175 (386) X 3
175 (386) X 1

Lunge/Split squat

Rear foot raised on platform. Held DBs in both hands on both sets but kept losing balance. Swtiched to hold DB in one hand and using other to grasp squat rack. Forgot which leg I'd done and ended up doing each leg twice in a row.

Body + 20 (44) in each hand X 8
Body + 20 (44) in one hand X 8
Body + 20 (44) in one hand X 8

DB curls

Abandoned due to tendon pain in brachialis

Triceps

Alternated between continuous tension pushdowns and continuous tension dips.
