Default Wisconsin high school football player dies in weight accident

This is so tragic:

Wis. high school football player dies in weight accident | Minneapolis and St. Paul | kare11.com

Please don't ever lift alone without proper safety equipment, and make sure to test your rack/pins to make sure they can support the weights if you did need to use them.

Wow, that's sad. But, it really reinforces why I bench in a rack, especially alone, even though I seem to move more weight from standard bench. I just hope this, and the associated media attention, doesn't have the effect that gun accidents tend to.

Same here.

I have been benching alone with pins and have never had a training partner. To be honest, not really sure why modern bench units are sold to gyms without some sort of spotting arms.

The Rack for me as well, I like racks. I t would seem strange to bench out of a "regular" bench now.

This is really sad. I had what could have been a really nasty accident yesterday in the gym. I posted about it here

Safety can never be too much.

Reminds me of the coach who died with 300 lbs on him and his daughters came home and found him.

I've always worried about that. I can't imagine having my wife come home and finding my dead body on a bench with a bar across my neck. I've benched well over 400lb at home completely alone, but I have metal sawhorses that I use as racks. I've dumped 400 on them and never had a problem.
