I think that sentiment comes from the fact that, at their respective competitions, a bodybuilder is at his weakest and a powerlifter is at his strongest. That's not to say that a bodybuilder is weak by any means. But they will be much weaker than they we're 4 months prior to a competition. They may generally use higher reps than powerlifters, but you don't get to that level and size without moving some heavy sh*t. A lot of heavy sh*t.

also because people are still convinced that training for strength and training for size are completely different things. this is just not true especially if you're still a beginner/intermediate

I don't see this. Most strength athletes I know respect the iron and the lifter and know what it takes for progress.

Likely they are kids with no experience. I wouldn't call them strength athletes. I would call them naive.

As many have said never seen anyone say bbers are 'weak' as such. Seen bodybuiders whom were not that great at the big lifts compafed to a good strength athlete, but not 'weak'. However seen some lifts that are pretty dam impressive however you look at it.

Off course plenty of banter about; oil, thongs, mates tanning each others bum crack etc etc lol

most good powerlifters have at least flirted with bodybuilding. I know two of the guys I train with both did shows earlier in their lifting.

I think most powerlifters will admit that the will power and dedication to be an elite level bb, is much harder than that to be an elite level powerlifter.
