Default How to suffer horrible DOMS

Thanks Swede, Ben.

How to suffer horrible DOMS

1. Take some time off squatting. A month should do it.
2. Do four sets of deadlifts at 80% +. Make one set maximal.
3. Do two sets of squats with a light weight to ease you back into squatting.
4. Think 'this is pretty easy' and add 20kg (44lbs). Do two further sets.
5. The following day, sit in the car for four hours.
6. Then try to go on a long hike.

It was just horrible. My hams felt like old elastic bands and were going into spasm every fifteen minutes. I have been walking like a 200 year old version of the Frankenstein monster for three days.

Funny what less than 90s time under tension can do.

I am going through the same thing.

In the last 2 weeks I had a meet, and nothing else.

Monday, squats, 4 triples at 85%, then 4x6 at 75%, Followed by RDL, 100 lbs more than I ever did....cant get up out of a chair OR walk!

The iron is there during my times of happiness, sadness and anger. The iron is there available through the 4 seasons and inclement weather. The iron is there to either comfort me or motivate me. The Iron manages to show me how strong I am or how humble I need to be. The iron does not yell, but it always demands respect. The iron is not a disciplinarian, but when disrespected, I feel it for a long time. The iron does not love or hate, but we definitely share a strong bond. And no matter how far I stay away or for how long, the iron is there, waiting to be lifted.

Sunday

Bit of a low key session. My aim was to get back into squatting after a break and to start on SLDLs as my secondary deadlift movement.

Squats

60 (132) X 5
100 (221) X 4
140 (308) X 3
160 (353) X 3
Belt on
170 (373) X 3
182.5 (403) X 2
182.5 (403) X 1

Stifff-legged deadlifts

Haven't done these for a long time so took it really easy.

60 (132) X 10
100 (221) X 8
120 (265) X 8
140 (308) X 7
140 (308) X 7
140 (308) X 7

Ancrel: fine beardage!

Wednesday

Tough session today. Tired before I got there. Pull-ups seem to have plateaued and started going backwards. Shoulder still hurting and holding me back on overhead press, which was weak sauce.

Still, hey, not every session can be a victory. At least I got there.

Pull ups - neutral grip

Bodyweight X 6
Bodyweight + 15kg (33) X 5
Bodyweight + 20kg (44) X 4
Bodyweight + 30kg (66) X 3
Bodyweight + 40kg (88) X 2
Bodyweight + 40kg (88) X 2

T-bar rows

50 (110) X 8
75 (165) X 8
85 (176) X 6
85 (176) X 5
85 (176) X 5
75 (165) X 8

Paused bench press

All reps paused

Warm-ups
100 (221) X 5
120 (265) X 4
125 (275) X 4
130 (286) X 4
135 (297) X 3

Overhead Press

60 (132) X 8
60 (132) X 8
60 (132) X 7
60 (132) X 6
