SB!! wut up big homie!

My ultimate goal has changed over time as i have grown. I used to say my ultimate goal in bbing was to get on the Mr. O stage and compete againt some of the worlds best bber's.

But as i have matured, so has my thought process. I realized, that is a desire a dream that i am working towards. My ultimate goal is to fulfill my potential in this sport. Not just on stage but off as well. I want to one day look as good as i ever will, help others achieve their best, and have solid sponsorship for what i bring (Already blessed with that, RCSS).

bbing has affected me personally in a way that is positive. I can't even think what i would be doing if i wasn't into bbing??? lol. Honestly, bbing before my wife got into competing was a strain on our relationship. She could not understand why I HAD to have protein or why I HAD to train for 2 hours or why I HAD to push get my sleep. But then she got into the sport and it was like an epiphany, lol. She then understood and bbing became less of a strain and more of a joint effort. We diet together, we run through pounds and pounds of protein together, we train together. My wife used to feel like i was choosing the gym over her but now we choose the gym together and i'm loving it.

Another way that bbing has affected my life is that i don't have very many friends, if any, that are not into this sport somehow or someway. This sport, as well as religion, has helped mold who i call friend. I don't have very much in common with people who are not into this or at least understand it. People who don't understand what this sport is about, the dedication, the sacrifice, the commitment, etc then they seem to think "Its not that serious"

Why Amy doesn't have a log here? lol! She's a FaceBooker. I told her that it's not very many females that train how she does and i think people would be interested in her logging. But, she seems to think that a female squatting 275lbs is no big deal

As a pastor, I am curious how you manage BB and your faith. Many think that the two can not coexist, as BB seem, by nature, to be very self promoting and interested and faith is very "other" oriented. Talk about this a bit.

Man, I don't think I can even list'em all! lol As a beginner, I was just very very eager to be my best. So here's a list format.

1. Over training - I would go to the gym and spend hours and hours there when I should have been getting in, doing work, and getting out.

2. Too much volume - I would do 25-30 sets per workout. All reps were in double digits

3. Zero carbs - Would spend those hours in the gym and only eat chicken breast and salad. lol

4. No Deadlifts - I grew to hate Deadlift from doing them so much from football so when I begin my own journey and just didn't do them. Big mistake.

5. Too many supplements - I was spending about 400$ every 5 or 6 weeks on any and everything I could

6. Not enough compound movements - I would go in the gym and do the weird stuff that I saw other guys doing. Thinking that would give me the edge.

7. Cardio'ed out - I was doing like an hour of high intensity cardio. Stairs, sprinting, etc. Pretty sure I burned up a lot of muscle.

8. No protein powder - I thought it would make me fat based on past experiences. LMBO

9. Didn't use heavy weight - I had that "reps for tone" type of thinking

10. Abs - I would train abs everyday and still only had a semi 4 pack

Thank God for growth!!

Interesting topic Bam.

I, myself, could not do this without strong faith in God. By nature, to the outside eye, bbing is a self indulging sport but it takes a team to help that person get on stage. That team for me consist of God, my wife, my pastor, my coach, and my training partners. I don't understand how some people do this without believing. Every time I get under a bar with 495lbs on it and attempt to lift it above my chest, I am saying to myself "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" or before I put 600+lbs on my back and attempt to squat to the floor and up as many times as I can i'm saying to myself "For with God nothing shall be impossible"

I understand that some people let bbing consume them and faith becomes that "other" talk but at some point they will have to realize bbing has a time limit, lol. As a Christian, I know to put God first in all things and that is why bbing takes a back seat to my faith. BBing is a part of my life but my faith is my life.

During my prep, i'm usually very emerged into my faith. Prayer and meditation upon waking, worship before and during cardio, prayer on my way to work, etc. I am this way because physically, mentally, and emotionally I have to give myself to Him to keep me. Contest Prep takes its toll and the only way that I know to keep me smiling and having a good time all the way through my prep is to lean on my faith.

My wife and I attend church as much as possible, lol. 3 times a week. We are known as the fitness couple in the church. My pastor often uses us to demonstrate certain talking points and illustrate parts of the Word. Our walk in fitness is something that we use in the church to help other Christians see that we must be fully mindful of our bodies. Jesus didn't travel all over the world by plane, train, or bus. He had to be in shape to walk from city to city and preach the gospel! lol.

BBing is a tool that I was given. Most of my workout partners are not saved and I working on them. I get them to come to church with me, I testify to them, I let them know what the Word says, I encourage them to pray and talk to God. These are guys that I would not have known if it wasn't for bbing. I'm probably the only person that talks to them about God but one day He will touch them and they will be changed for life.

So how do I manage bbing and my faith. I manage bbing with my faith.
