Initially it was trial and error, since I use ordinary food sources, so training is generally after a meal or right before a meal. When I've had a large meal and then done squats, I have regretted not allowing it enough time to digest Small meals don't seem to bother me but a huge evening meal is a problem before any exercise that is either bent over, such as rows, or an exercise which compresses the stomach, such as abs crunches and squats.

Usually I eat about 45 minutes before I lift. I have to have a good deal in my stomach or else I do not do well.

I too usually eat some cereal or some oatmeal before working out to get me going. I usually do not wait that long to start lifting.

I have been hooked on bagels lately. Toasted with some cream cheese on it is yummy.

Oatmeal with a little honey and cinnamin and I only wait about 15 mins or so.

I have noticed if I don't eat a fast burn carb with my protein shake post workout I'll get the shakes.

True, but not everybody has the same captain in 'em. Mine's named Morgan too often than not. And never before a workout, only sometimes later in the evening as a mild painkiller/mood stabilizer/sleep aide.

I like the spiced version, because spices are good for you probably.
