He looks not only ripped, but strong.

How many of today's physiques look ripped, yet semi-frail.

Most of them look very frail.

At one point the bench was a minor role movement.
Then pressing was taken out of the Oympic lifts
Arnold and his massive chest came along, and everybody thought they could have a chest like that.

We used to do lots of dips, and gymnastic type chest moves
We added some flat bench
Then we did some incline
then we added flyes
Then we added various cable moves from multiple angles
Now we have to do declines on top of all that.

The basic Brah's chest routine looks like a frigging Chinese buffet with all the moves some of them think they need for their chest muscles.

Most of them still look like shit, because they have developed these man boobs, with no shoulders to go along with them.

Actually they don't have much more than some pecs, and Abs, and they think they are stacked. They are weak.

Just went back through all of this thread. I have today literally dusted off several plates and setup a new place to lift. A new blank logbook sits waiting for notes to be written in it.

The last several weeks have been spent on conditioning work, and I had sore legs from squatting all last week.

With a little luck I'll plug in and turn on the "open for business" sign.

I'll be working a program that combines aspects of the Reeves program, and a Sandow type of trng. I'll be using a single barbell with no additional benches, but may bring my lat tower into play, as I enjoy performing dips and chins.

I had a good start on a program like this last year, but once again, a move a new job interrupted things. Some Family issues were in play as well.

An important aspect of performing an old schoold program utilizing minimal equipment is to have the upper, and lower back strength in place to handle putting weights back down from a full clean position. This is not as fast a way to train, but can still be done quite effectively. In some ways the slightly slower approach is better.

I'll start a new log in a week or so, and will continue to add here as well.

Another lifter that we need to consider is the great John Grimek,

Although Grimek was several decades later than Sandow, it will be worth looking at how training had evolved between the two generations. An interesting point to note is that Grimek still does not display the overblown pec musculature.

I am very interested...I LOVE "Old School" training.....just patiently waiting for you to begin......I train at home with basic equipment....Barbell, old school squat rack, and a power rack.

The iron is there during my times of happiness, sadness and anger. The iron is there available through the 4 seasons and inclement weather. The iron is there to either comfort me or motivate me. The Iron manages to show me how strong I am or how humble I need to be. The iron does not yell, but it always demands respect. The iron is not a disciplinarian, but when disrespected, I feel it for a long time. The iron does not love or hate, but we definitely share a strong bond. And no matter how far I stay away or for how long, the iron is there, waiting to be lifted.
