5x5 or 3x5 will allow you to handle heavier weights then say 3x10 or 3x12 but if you chase progression in the higher rep ranges you will still get stronger at the end off the day, a lot of people...

in my opinion a beginner could get better form practise from sets of 10-12 reps, reps build muscle memory and more reps mean more practise like learning any new skill.

And I'm not dismissing 5X5...

I don't think there is much difference between 4x8 or 3x10 both will put on mass, but I would see what the more experienced lifters say.
