Default Accomodating Resistence

By now we all know the effect bands and chains can and will have on our training. They make you faster, stronger and when you switch back to regular straight weight it feels light as a feather. In short they are amazing tools, geared or raw.

Heres a quick tip I have found pretty darn useful the past few months when it comes to testing a max with just bar weight. It applies to squats bench and deadlifts although you could do it on other lifts too if wanted.

Start with a reasonable amount of chains on the bar, then add weight keep working up to about 40-60%, when you start going higher here remove the chains and feel how much more explosive you will be, work up and test your max. This has worked pretty well for me this year. My squat with straight weight has hit a bit of a plateu of late but I am very confident next time I test it will be back up again.

I haven’t done this with bands as I think the overspeed eccentrics from the bands will screw your groove up bigtime, possible exeptions might be for deadlifts due to the concentric only nature of the lift. but the chains work and they work well.

Give it a try and see if it works for you!

Good one Clayton. Thats why I have never done a proper DE session. I could never stop myself from taking the bands or chains off and go heavy! 2 ME sessions turned to 4!
