Default Smolov Squat

Hey MAB!

I am considering running Smolov Squat, I have always wanted to try it out, and my 2 training partners want to run it.

I just have a few questions.

1. Should I do any benching/pressing and back work?
2. I have the Oly pulls 2x a week and I dont want to give them up. Do you think the Smolov + Oly Pulls will be too much?

Thanks!

There are a lot of variables Spart.

Walk into it, and watch the intensity and you should be ok. It's all about management through a cycle.

If your serious about this I would look at this as a multiple cycle event.
think long term and look at maybe three cycles with a upping of intensity through each one.

Benchig, Pressing. Pick one, I'd go with pressing.

Squat
Oly pulls
Pressing

Thats it

Pavel has a write up on this in his book "Beyond Bodybuilding". I have the PDF at home, and I will try to post it up for you. . I don't remember what he says as far as programming other lifts with the squats, but I'm sure he makes some sort of recommendations.

I am not a powerlifter nor am I a bodybuilder. I just want to be big and strong.

I know a couple of guys who have done this all the way through and gotten good results, both had good technique in the Squat and were already well inured to high frequency/high volume training. I think that's very important to remember with this kind of routine, if you squat ugly then I'd think twice about it. You know if your Squats are the sort of lean forward, good morning, vein bursting type of squats then it's gonna be tough work.

1) Pressing/Benching sure.

2) Back work might be possible, depends on how well you cope with high volume stuff. Hazz did fine on it.

Thanks for the advice!!

I figure the Olympic lifts give a lot of back work anyway so I was just thinking 3 days a week alternate between some bench press or overhead press.
