Default Mobility: Too often ignored?

I got serious about mobility and saw a rapid increase ove Christmas break. I also took eating more seriously, but that's just an extra bit of information. Now I notice if I haven't performed my mobility work throughout the week my lifts are harder. It seems like mobility is almost a necessity for proper execution of a lift and maximal strength. It makes sense.

Thoughts? Comments?

I just started getting serious about mobility work. I mostly included it to get my son in a good habit, but I'm also hopeful that it will give me some benefits and I won't feel so tight all the time.

I don't find a lot of good conversations on mobility. I would like to hear more about what you guys are specifically doing if you have the time...

I am doing DeFranco's Agile 8 (mostly). I'm not smart enough to come up with my own plan so I just went with the Agile 8 since it seems pretty popular.

a good person to check out is Eric Cressey. He is very big on mobility and has come up with some great programs.

Magnificent Mobility -hopefully his works

^ This. Joe DeFranco is the man when it comes to mobility, stretching, speed, athleticism, strength, speed strength, endurance, and just overall performance enhancement.

Some coaches want to get you "stronger", but Joe wants you to get stronger, leaner, faster. That's why he is my favorite all around coach out of everyone else I have ever read about.

BTB, go to defrancostraining.com and look up Westside for skinny bastards, he has plenty of mobility workouts and tips on there and they are amongst the best.

I agree. I love doing more mobility stuff as I'm in the iron game to hit numbers to be sure, but also to be more tough and athletic in general. Not much of a need for a big bench press or squat in the real world btw, but being able to coordinate lots of muscles to do lots of things, yeah very big for me.

So, Cressey who's more sort of yoga'ish, opposing muscle doing the work centric type, has been better for me so far, but I have adapted some of the explosive type power dynamic exercises from guys like De Franco. But, I'm never going to sprint the hundred for real or push off a defensive lineman (ever!); however, I can use some of those dynamics for sure.

Just saying, sacrificing everythig to lift heavy can be hugely rewarding, yet also extremely limiting. If my choice was to be Maryland's best ever (weight class) powerlifter, or just a decently strong well rounded athlete, I'd take the latter.

Do the natural motions of your body. Run, jump, push and pull. Tarzan looked pretty big, so it seems to work.

^ I agree with you Mike. I would rather be able to do bench 315, squat 405, deadlift 480, and do 50 pullups, 100 push ups, 150 sit ups, and be able to run and sprint like a pro football player, be flexible vs. just being strong and not being able to run 100 yards without passing out.

I mean, as I mentioned in another post I watch a lot of horror movies. I never know when my wife and I are going to go on vacation and get stalked by a maniac in the woods and I will need speed, endurance, and mobility. I never know when I am going to get chased by an animal, or if I have to fight someone stronger than me (then I will have to use speed). I'd rather just have a hybrid of them all; that seems more functional than me anyway than just being strong.

That's what I love so much about Joe DeFrancos training.

Oh yeah, if I'm hiking with the family, there's no question I'd rather be all around strong for whatever might come up!

Let's face it, the wolfman salivating after my children might not be all that impressed by my 500 pound squat.
