I love reading anything from Rhodes. Me and him and eerily on the same page with regards to training even though we are completlely different in terms of what we compete in.

5/3/1 just makes a great base for progression to me, I had little understanding of what progression was until I discovered the program. I've used it in the standard form going for rep maxes, the 3 day a week full-body/5x5esque template, 3/5/1 +singles, 3 days a week and 4 days.
With more of a concentration on powerlifting and 1RM this year I'll see how the 3/5/1 +singles will work but I'm hoping for more good progress. As for westside, it's far beyond me to comment, it's a science ha!

Rhodes is one of my favorite posters over on WBB. I am a big fan of simplicity and Rhodes keeps it pretty simple. If you want a big bench, then you should bench. If you want a big squat, then you should squat. Start at "A" and move to "B" in an orderly fashion, so-to-speak.

No truer words have been spoken. For example, has anyone taken the time to check out Wendlers logs back from 2003 (there still on Elite)? I went to a seminar Tate and him put on in 2002 and he didn't get as strong as he did doing one hard set and hill sprints!

I doubt there's many big lifters out there still using the same program they started with. Most of the logs I track and guys I've interacted with have made good progress on program "A", and also made good progress on Program "B", and also made progress on Program "C" and so on... In other words, they just put in the effort and look for progression. Use it while it works and make changes when it stops.

One thing I mention to a lot of the young guys who idolize bodybuilders: don't mimic what they're doing now. Find out what they did when they made the bulk of their gains.
Point being you have to look at the big picture and not the latest adjustments.
