Giant Cambered Bar Substitute

Here is what the bar looks like in action:

The bar swings forwards as you come out of the hole which works your upper back VERY hard. This should be good for keeping your arch on squats but will also improve your deadlift.

My problem is that I want to use one but don't have one at the gym and don't fancy forking out for one either. Question is do you think that I could rig something up with my slightly cambered bar by hanging weights from bands like a giant version of this:

Or does anyone else have any other ideas?

I am trying to decide if it would make a difference with the hanging weight now being as heavy.

I've done those bench presses before we also have that same cambered bar. The bands create of ton of instability in the bench press, I would be a little apprehensive to try the same with anything heavy on squats. I do not think it would be anywhere close to an equivalent, but it certainly could make for some interesting assistance work.

I've seen someone on youtube hand a second barbell from a set of chains off the top barbell, that seems like it would be the closest to replicating a cambered bar movement. I think the video was posted here of a guy doing good mornings with that setup.

Thanks Jesse. I think the video you're talking about is Vogelpohl and he has a safety bar on his back whilst also pulling weights from the floor, mental!

Is there anyone you know that can make a couple of the T-sections (the parts that hang below the barbell, attached to it), a welder maybe, so that you just add an attachment to the barbell already available to you? Something that you can slide on and off, I mean, and therefore carry with you to the gym.

Thinking about this, if you took two sets of your bands and did some heavy squats with the bands it may accomplish much of the same thing. Extreme and increasing tension weighing down on your upper back, coming out of the hole.
