T-bone, you would be surprised how much pain you can avoid with just a little stuffed animal or something similiar. My wife always says she doesn't want anything, but any little cheap nothing will put a smile on her face. After 31 years, I know.

When a woman says they don't want anything they're most definitely lying. Having 3 sisters a mother and wife I know this.

This is true. Flowers are my fall-back gift if she really doesn't want anything. They just want to know we care. Mostly my wife wants clothes, and there's no way I'm buying her clothes, that just can't end well. So it's flowers unless she comes up with something specific.

Oh, I have since learned to ignore the pleas for thrift and read between the lines. Me, on the other hand, present a long lift of items/activities from which to choose.

We have a list of books she wants. I usually pick a couple from there and then get her something photography related as well. She likes getting several small, cheap, but thoughtful gifts, where I like 1 bigger, useful thing, so its been an entertaining half decade getting it right.
