Just curious. What is with the raising of the head each rep? I would think that would risk some injury.

They are doing Tricep hell where you press the same weight off progressively higher boards but using their hands to add resistance instead.

That's how I bench. When I setup properly it feels better for me that way. It's hard for me to bench head down.

I can't say why, but I know I do the same thing.

I was just curious. One of my Fit For the King folks, who I have doing 5/3/1 right now, does the same thing. His form is still not super clean so it scares the begeebee out of me.

I know when my head stays down it really strains my neck.

Maybe one of the big benchers can comment.

I am pretty sure that is just Mark Bell messing with people. Those are 45lb bumber plates. This would make his raw bench into the 800s, which I know isnt true.

The head up thing is kind of used as a rebound effect, most will drop their head some after they touch. Shirt benchers do it a lot to help get weights down.

That is wild! I sure hope his spotter has a deadlift at least that big.
On the rare occasion I have a spotter (I usually use a rack) I always tell them not to touch unless I say "help" and tell people that I spot that I won't help unless asked.
