So, let me see if I have this straight...

He is saying that narrow stance squats work the quads effectively but not so much the posterior. Wide stance squats work the quads just as effectively as the narrow stance but have the added benefit of also being effective for the posterior. Therefore you should work with a wide stance because it will help with both wide and narrow movements.

Did I understand it correctly?

That's pretty much it. He's basically saying that wide stance makes you stronger both in that movement but also on a narrow stance and jumping and punching and kicking.

Interesting, I hadn't made that exact connection before. I'd always assumed that wide was more posterior and narrow was more quad. But if it's true that the wide exercise works the quads just as well, then I can see the benefits of training wide more often.

Louie is of the opinion that wide stance is the best way to squat regardless of what you're training for.

Widened my stance a few weeks ago and it feels much, much better. It will be a few weeks before I am back at PR territory so it will be interesting to see how I do but I really like the wider stance and I also get better, deeper reps with it.
