![]() So I was just minding my own business browsing youtube today and I came across this guy's youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/Power275 I noticed two things. First, he looks young and second he's insanely strong raw. I followed up to his blog and found out his name is Mike Tuchsherer. Unsatisfied, a google search came up with this article: Interview With Powerlifter Mike Tuchscherer as Published in PLUSA. If you're not going to read it, let me just throw you some highlights. This guys is INSANE. At the time of the article he was 23 years old (now 25 I'm guessing) and he competed in the 275 pound weight class. In the video below we only get to see his squat and deadlift, which total 1522, and I'm willing to assume he had a 500 lb benchpress based off his videos...that's a 2k total...raw...at 23 . This guy's a monster haha. The whole reason I posted this though, besides the obvious awesomeness, was that in the interview he talks about how is approach to training is all about learning the game and always absorbing knowledge - I really respect that.Last edited by BendtheBar; 07-26-2011 at 10:52 AM. |

Mike is a very strong guy. He also trains alone almost all of the time. Squatting and benching like that with no spotters takes guts. Respect!

I enjoy reading his articles on training.
When I get some cash I am going to take a look at the RTS manual. He presents some interesting concepts.

From what I've seen he seems to be a fan of perceived effort training. So instead of picking a weight in advance you pick an effort level out of 10. Advantages are that your energy and strength will eb and flow on any given day so it allows you to accommodate that. Disadvantages are that 200kg's is always 200kg's but what the hell does 8/10 feel like??????

Yeah, I was trying to read his log and was really confused about all the extra numbers. Just from the light survey I've done of his log and articles, he seems like a weight lifting genius haha. I could get lost in his training program I think. He also apparently records bar speed...not sure how you do that either lol.

Some sets are really hard for me to judge. Take squats. 365x8 seems like a 9 until I do 445 x 5, and then that seems like a 9. I am obviously not doing his system justice with my babble. I'm sure it's a great approach once you become familiar with the mechanics. I will say the aspect of fatigue percentages intrigues me the most, but I need to buy the book to learn more.

He has a (nin)Tendo unit which he straps to the bar. This measures bar speed for his rep's. All a bit uber geek but quite interesting nonetheless.

Oh, I've seen the Mark Bell and the guys at SuperTraining Gym use that in some of their videos.
