I bought the book this morning. At first I was disappointed, but after reading it over again I like it a lot more. It is kind of an add on to the original 5/3/1 book though, it'd be hard to understand this one without knowing the original inside and out.

Basically it builds on his 3/5/1 from his article 5/3/1 reloaded. In a nutshell, you do normal 5/3/1 in the offseason, and then he explains how to taper down to a meet 8 weeks out and how to balance out strength, conditioning, and assistance in that 8 weeks. He goes into gear and how that would change the program and throws in 2 more programs, one that cuts all the reps to 2 and ups the sets, and another that is a 16 week 5/3/1 cycle with bands.

In theory this really answers most if not all questions anyone would ever have about adapting the original 5/3/1 for a competitive powerlifter, or a person looking to increase 1RM strength. This should also shut up those people who say the 5/3/1 is not suitable for powerlifting because of rep out sets and the lack of a taper and lack of heavy singles.

If you like 5/3/1 and are a competitive lifter, this book should be your new bible. If you haven't even bought the original 5/3/1 or ran it before, I wouldn't bother.
