Meet was two days ago, and at the moment I have a sore throat and can't afford to get sick over the next few days. On the other hand, other than my throat and some raspiness I'm in good condition and not sore at all, so I feel lazy just sitting around. Opinions?

If you've got a sore throat already it probably wont get worse if you go lift. Or it might, but who could tell? Take your chances, and squat your ass off it cures colds on occasion.
SFW bro!!

I usually take a few days off, some of my teammates take a week off.
If I feel good after a meet (i.e. i didn't miss many lifts) I'll usually do some light stuff on the tuesday after the meet to keep bloodflow going and actively contributing to my recovery.

General rule of thumb is Muscles will heal faster then Joints & Ligaments, however many lifters get injured because they neglect the fact that while the actual muscle isn't super sore chances are your joints took a beating from lifting maximally on 3 lifts as well as from your training up to the competition. Also if your getting a sore throat that means your immune system is slightly compromised, & C.N.S is definitely worn down. Like I said as long as its not heavy or stressful training it won't really affect you negatively. I only right all this in case someone else in the same situation digs up the thread at a later time or feels the same way as you. |

After my two meets I have taken most of the following week off and then gone in the following weekend to do some light fun lifting before starting to get serious the next week. Play it by ear. Like T said: no sense in training when you're not fully recovered.

this sport is a marathon...not a sprint....take the time you need to recover before getting back in the gym. Get back physically AND mentally.....I have taken as much as 2 weeks off after a meet with no negative impact on my training.
