If I really need to repeat what others have already said.. Best overall single-movement resulting in full body tension. I would be okay if I could only do Deads forever..

Well if I could only pick one exercise to do this next year. Have to agree with others here, the Deadlift. As much as I love getting in the squat rack, nothing compares to the overall feeling of pulling a crap load of weight off the ground. From your legs to your shoulders and all in between the DL hits them all.
Not to mention it helps in building that massive trap look I so crave. HAHA

That's a tough one. I like deadlift a lot better, but squatting is also an awesome exercise. I'll pick deadlift because it gets more P-Chain and different variations incorporate legs more. Choosing deadlifts means I could do sumos, sldl, and any other variation I could think of right?

I want to say squat but would have to go with the dead lift. No other exercise challenges me to the extent that the dead lift does. No other movement zaps my CNS the way the DL does. It is a very functional movement and pumps the ego when you move large pounds off the ground.

Pretty easy question if you ask me. I also choose deads.
If squats were out for a year, I'd rotate deficit deads; if the hips are being dipped down far enough, you can accomplish the same thing as you would when squatting. So yeah, deads all the way. |

Hit the nail on the head. On the one hand, squats DO cure cancer, but I'll have to throw in with the deadlift for all of the reasons already mentioned. It is also the more functionally useful lift, and it trains the grip better than the squat does.

Right now I would pick squats
![]() I love squatting, im better at it than i am at Deadlifting and i love working 'the wheels'... Although i agree Deads work more muscles and are probably better for functional strength. If I were better at them then I would probably pick them (and I definitely pic them in the picture....) Carl. |
