Thanks Tom and everyone else, I'm gonna pick up some supplies for atlas stones and a pullup/dip station today. My friend's father runs a tire shop so I'll see what sort of **** I can worm out of him too. On atlas stones, has any one who have made them before have any pointers on the construction? Also, I can max deadlift about 500 pounds so I'm not quite sure what sort of weight I should be starting off with, 100? 150? 200lbs?

Instead of making stones when you have no instruction as Doc said, Invest in a pulling harness from APT and maybe a sandbag? I say harness because it can be used for many different things from vehicles to sled drags with relatively no special equipment involved. I havent trained with stones either and I wont have any part of it until I have the guys I lift with help me out with instruction. I realize everyone has a little different technique but you could really mess yourself up with those if you arent careful.

The smaller strongman gyms are out there, it just takes a bit of creative thinking. I had to do an internet seach in order to find a big training center 40 minutes from me. After getting in contact with them they in turn gave me contact info for another guy nearer to my location, who in turn gave me the information for the guy who owns the gym I currently train at which has everything under the sun catering to the powerlifter and strongman. Had I not found this opportunity I would still be bench pressing on a smith machine at a health club. They are out there, it just may take some time and inginuity to find out who is doing the training in your area.
