But since I don't do deads I fail

back cant handle them even at low weight. Most people say I am doing them wrong or something.

There are very inexpensive mini-tripods available for most cameras. I bought a mini-tripod for $4 I believe.

Just dont have a BP vid.... (would it have to be paused ??)

Carl.
I will add you. I know you are good. Paused? No...this isn't strictly powerlifting. As long as it's not bro-bounced it's good to go.

I've never tried for a 1 rep all out max effort before.

So, how would you go about doing that? Pyramid up? If so, at what weight would you start after warming up, 70%, 80% for how many reps? Or just have at it and keep hitting singles until you burst? 5 min rest in between?

How would you prepare for it? Just do it like a contest all three in one day over a few hours, and see what happens, or maybe space out max efforts once a week for each lift?

This has me curious. I want to join this club sometime soon, and I'm sure I will, but I also wonder if I should be finding my baseline 1 rep max for the big three so that I know how my training is going, what is working, not working, etc.

Hi Mike,

I wrote this article a while back that provides some general guidelines.

That article was perfect! How did you know a few years ago I would need that information today? ESP?

i'm going on vacation around the end of june and would like to test my maxes around that time. Should i do it the week before i leave or let my body rest and then do it after? never really tested my one rep maxes before so i'm not sure of how i should lead up to this during the week. any help appreciated and hopefully i'll be joining the club before the end of the month!

I don't know about strategy, but you pick a date later this month, and I'll do a 1 rep max for all three lifts on the same day right there with you.

Could be like a virtual meet. Honor system of course. I have no video skills to speak of.

We could even do it for real like a meet, not like Steve's precision system. We each get to warmup however we want, including in between lifts, but only get three money lifts that count. Squat first, Bench, then Deadlift. Post your best money lifts and total it up.

You'll probably beat me, but I love a challenge. Get your Dad to spot you. I can usually find some meathead in my gym to yank a bar off my flailing carcass!

Might be fun.
