I feel ya on this one BTB. I was told to switch alternative grips, but shit never worked for me. When it comes to lifting heavy weight, I'm more thinking about lifting the damn weight. Like you said..the movement needs to feel natural..

So I'm not insane after all.

alternating grip helps me pull way more weight, even with straps.

but i would double standard that advice because ive heard its prone to bicep tears. so try to use a standard grip as much as you can.

I try to use a double-overhand grip for warm-up sets and a mixed grip for the work sets. My last peak workout involved warm-up sets upto 245 x 5, and this seems almost like the limit for me at this stage with a double overhand grip.

However, this is not to say you cant deadlift heavy loads with double-overhand grip. I couldn't, but here's someone who did (700 lbs, no less!!) -

I try to use a double overhand grip whenever I can, I do all of my warmups and lighter sets with a hook grip but when the weights get heavy I use a alternate grip. I never change this grip for the same reasons as everyone else. It feels natural and I want everything to feel natural when picking up a huge weight from the floor.

DITTO! ^Just remember to keep your triceps flexed so you don't irritate your biceps and your good to go!
