I got into lifitng to look better. I realized no matter what my goal i needed to build strength. As most know i've been running a program with mostly compound lifts (3x5) with a little added hypertrophy work. I've really been enjoying gaining strength. I love deadlifting and benching, right now hating squats (had to deload, and last workout i squated with a hurt knee, which ended up making knee worse). I loved squats a month ago and need to love them again becuase they are currently sucking. I'd like to get into some sort of powerlifting meet within the next year. I'm looking around trying to find a meet to enter into. There are a few different things and i'm going to continute researching to find the one i want to do. Competition i found this: Ohio High School Power Lifting Meet It is the results of some power lifting meet from 2007. According to these numbers, i could get to a point where i wouldnt be embarresed. Lifts Current Deadlift- 275x5x3 also just did 310x1 easy with bum knee. think i could get at least 325 1rm currently. Squat- 225x5x3 obviously need to get this up. Had problems with it. Bench-160x5x3 Goals by the enf of feb Dead- 400x1 Squat 300x1 Bench- 200x1 Total-900 I know it seems wierd how the all the numbers are multiples of 100, but these numbers actually make since. No matter what i want a 900lb total by then ![]() By meet (to be able to be some what competitive) Dead- 425x1 Squat 350x1 Bench 225x1 Total-1000 obviously depending on when i the meet is i would set goals higher or lower. these would just be good numbers, that would allow me to be fairly competitive. these numbers are extremely high for me, maybe impossible with only a years worth of time, but i think, why not aim high? Program Currently basically on a 3x5 with a little added hypertrophy work. I eventually would like to add in/replace with rep ranges of 1-3. Why i posted just wanted to put my goal in writing and let everyone know how my goals are changing

Kman, I just have 3 things to say:
1) Form will come will desire. Keep pushing and you'll get there. There are guys deadlifting 600 natural with crappy form. 2) You would do better then you think in a powerlifting meet, even right now. At your age and weight, some world raw natural records are in the high 1100's. That seems like a mile away, but it's not. In a year to 18 months, you could be one of the best on the platform. 3) I know you can do it. You are motivated. Just remember that nothing is more important then motivation and drive.

This site is great. Since everyone at my gym is the db, pec dec (yes i did these last workout), nonstop curling douche bags it is hard to get help. I wish i had some people to lift with, who could help me with form and make friendly competition. As a younger kid i always had older friends who were the best at all the sports and playing with them i got so much better, i wish i had this only in wieght lifitng. Right now i feel like i could really do a lot. I'm only a sophmore so i got two years to go of HS and by the time i'm a senior who knows what i could do. 1) yeah i'm at least making small improvements each time. Actually a day before you posted that layne norton vid on here, i watched a bunch of his other vids. He has pretty shitty form in some of them, BUT HE'S A BEAST! you got to think that good form would make these lifts even better...??? 2)yeah a year is a good time frame to set goals for. With good training and hard work i can surpass some of the guys who could be good, but are sidetracked by curls and shitty training, although theres always the guys like this senior at my school who squats 500+ just following the schools shitty training(hes a local football standout). 3)thanks a lot. I'll keep you posted and try to keep the motivation i have now.
