"Don't Deload, RELOAD!" I like that.
![]() I kinda have to agree, I had a bad day here and there this cycle and decided to de-load. Now, I'm feelin like I didn't need it..

I've been moving towards that way of thinking myself. Old habits are hard to break. I'm thinking now in terms of peaking over 9-12 weeks and then re-setting. . .The way I "used to do it."

On JB's program, I lasted 8 weeks before my body definitely told me to deload. I agree wholeheartedly that following a scheduled deload, like on 531, is likely not the best thing for most of us. As much as a newb or 18 y/o may not need to deload, I think the older we get our bodies naturally tell us when to deload, which certainly ain't going to take years.
I'm becoming more of a fan of "instinctive" training like Steve does more and more each day.

One problem is that being tired and beat isn't a bad thing. It's often a good thing. Tells us we've been training hard enough for some adaptation to potentially occur. Just depends how long you need to maintain that and what kind of backing off helps you peak, or moves you forward.

Me too OR! I wrote my next program as a 12 week cycle. I'm going old school.
I find my deloads are often more mental than physical. Sure, something hurts, but often I could just work through it if I felt like it, but mentally I'd rather live to fight another day.

You should be constantly monitoring your own reactions to training and know when to deload or take a complete break etc; it really isn't that complicated or at least not as complex as some newcomers seem to think...it's akin to a cold or the flu or a stomach bug...with those you know how much of a break you need or don't need, it's the same with training.
It's not always the break that's the issue, it's the remembering to start-up again after the break that's the bigger problem for some.

Good video. The constant deload was why I disliked 5/3/1.
