Default something is wrong with me(deadlift)

220 lbs hurt. 275 hurt very bad. The pain is in my lower back. I do not know why this is happening. Since i pulled 405 december 2011 i have had nothin but problems with my deadlift. And now this. I am at a loss and i do not know what to do. I recordex a video of 225. Will post later for critique. This is very bad.

I am not a powerlifter nor am I a bodybuilder. I just want to be big and strong.

Having burst a disc and herniated two others, go see a Dr. Get an MRI. If not that serious about it then look into rehab exercises for your lower back. Physical therapy, an epidural, and some nerve pain pills for my sciatica is what fixed me up.

I certainly think it's Dr time for me. What I'm worried about is that he is basically going to just tell me not to deadlift. The pain is only associated with the deadlift and usually lasts a few days afterwards.
He is a good doctor though and maybe he will make the effort to find the cause. Thanks for the advice.
Curious, after your problems, can you still deadlift?

I would say it's located more in the center.

This is just such a bum deal for me. It may sound stupid to some, but this is my life. I love lifting weights. And not being able to perform a key lift is really upsetting. And even more importantly than that, I have a family to think about and a son. It sucks that doing what I love could hurt me bad enough that I can't play my son because I am laid up or I can't support my family because I hurt myself and can't go to work.
This is real life. And I am a real person. And this is really a big deal to me.

Well you need to see a normal dr to get the MRI then he will refer you to an orthopedic surgeon. That is the guy who will say no deadlifts and try to push you into surgery. Then go get a second opinion from a sports ortho nuero surgeon. For me its what happened. Told that first doc to F off he wanted me to have surgery the same week and that i couldn't squat deadlift or overhead press again. Went to a sports specialist and he told me he doesnt tell people what they cant do. Got me all better without surgery. Yea i squat and deadlift heavier than ever.

Some people do DL after finding out they have a herniated disc:

Herniated Discs and Starting Strength

I suppose it will depend on the nature of a back issue, which way the disc is herniated (if it is), whether it is a bulging disc and so forth.

From what I gather, most of us have herniated discs, to some degree or other, we just aren't aware of them until they "pop".

Hell yea! Best decision of my life. Once they cut bone you are never the same. The next doctor i went to said the previous one wanted to operate on me so he got paid before i got better.

agree with fenrisulfr

I also had a spine surgery for HNP in lumbar spine

I was able to deadlift stronger AFTER surgery when I fixed all my form and mobility errors

Highly recommend "Ultimate Back Fitness and Performance" by Stuart McGill PhD
