Where to get a tire in SE Michigan?
When you read an article about acquiring/making strength equipment, there is always a line like "Tire yards will give away big old tires because it costs money to dispose of them", or something similar.
I'd like one for sledgehammer work, flipping etc. But every place I've called has reacted like what I'm asking for is insane - why would they give me a tire? Even when I make it clear I'm looking for one that they are just going to dispose of, etc. Any direction here would be appreciated. I'd throw a couple bucks at it, if necessary, but lots of people seem to get them for free... |

Everyone I know went that route; tire dealer, frmer, etc. As did I.

I drove around tire places and looked for old beat up OTR tires. The place was happy to offload one for free, even used their forklift to get it into my truck.

Try to find an implement dealer. I got a guy who will call me when specific tires come in so I can round out some weights that I am missing. Just make it very clear that you want a salvage tire, not a new one. If they say they will charge you, tell the to stick it an find another place. I had much more luck in person than I did over the phone or internet though.
