Default Discectomy Recovery Question

Talking to my Dr. about a discectomy. Scheduling another MRI. Could get it done in three weeks. Have been reading online about recovery. Anyone had one? Know other powerlifters who had one? I herniated L3/L4 over a year and a half ago. Shot and rehab didn't work. Hope to get back to powerlifting. Any Thoughts? Thanks.

Wow. I wish you the best man. I have no experience with anything like that, but I think if anyone could get onto the other side of it, you can.

I know my training partner had some serious back work done when he was younger. He is now in his mid 50s and still going strong. I will ask him about what he had done and get back to you. Best of luck with the whole thing. I am also going through recovery from surgery, and it sucks haha!

I had a lamonectomy and a discectomy of L5-S1 in 1996. I am not a power lifter and a relative newb to lifting. I do squat and deadlift, but I listen very carefully to my body. For a competitive powerlifter this can be a frustrating surgery and injury. I am sure there are some who have been there done that, seek them out. Be patient and allow your body to heal. DO NOT rush to get back to lifting, the weights will be there. When you do, start slowly. It only gets worse if this one fails.

One week post Op, feeling good. Back feels good. No lifting for about five more weeks but I'm really looking forward to it, it's hard to describe but I feel more solid than I have in years. I feel good about the surgery and the future
