Great job Jesse. I wish we would have known that you were going to rock the stage. A 375 squat total is getting pretty darn strong. Sounds like you're making great progress. How was your deadlift?

I did 2 for 3 in my deadlift, my first attempt I set the weight down before the command (doh!) but I kept with my plan and hit a new PR on my deadlift 207.5kg (457.5lbs).

Bench I had the most technical problems. I just could not listen to the commands. so I missed my first two attempts. I did repeat my 2nd attempt weight on the 3rd try just to be sure I would total, so my bench was lower than I wanted by still a respectable 115kg (253lbs). I was hoping to hit 275.

2nd and only 'good' squat was 160kg (353lbs)

Did you feel good and comfortable with your squat depth at the meet? The reason I ask is that the USAPL can often look for a bit deeper of a squat than some feds.

Yes, a lot of people were getting red lighted for depth. I was getting comments from a lot of other lifters that I was going too deep. Which is probably why I missed 375, I got stuck 2 inches out of the hole. I'm going to continue training at my current depth though, because I'd rather be way in the clear than leave it up to the judges opinion.

A good way to make sure you're getting deep enough is use a 12" box...touch your butt to the box and explode up...I compete in the APF Raw...submaster...squatting to 12" is a sure way to hit depth and engage your posterior chain in every lift..ass to ankles..no such thing as TOO DEEP!...

Thanks for the correction, I fixed it. I had set the bar at 1000 also before deciding on competing. Just do it, at 1000 you're not going to be in the top three anyway, so don't hold back!

I had hit 1105 two weeks ago at the gym, but gym lifts are VERY different than being on stage waiting for all the commands.

i'd imagine its a lot different in comp.

if i do compete i'd probably start at a local, high school meet (which i dont think is an official meet) and the rules wouldnt be quite as strict.
