Default Squatting with head down?

Taken from my training journal for discussion...

Really dialing in my form the past few workouts. I found my "low bar" position that feels amazing. Unracking the weight is effortless and feels like theres nothing on my back. Also, i have been looking down during squats and deads with my head neutral. It feel like i can really lock my upper back and everything together doing this. I know it goes against popular teaching, bur so does squatting 6 days a week and eating once a day. Guess i'm not the norm plus, looking at a spot on the floor really helps me gauge where my body position is better than looking way off at the ceiling or a far away wall. When i'm looking 10 feet away, i can see if i shift forward, whereas i cant tell jack when i'm staring off into space....

You should check out starting strength by marc rippetoe.
He actually teaches the Low bar squat with with the head looking down about 6-10ft(approx.) in front of you. He explains the reason for this.
So, it isn't necessarily popular teaching to look up and your intuition serves you well.
P.S. If you haven't read starting strength you would probably enjoy it. The exercise instruction is top notch.

I am not a powerlifter nor am I a bodybuilder. I just want to be big and strong.

It sounds like your head position is about what Rippetoe teaches. Glad to here it's working for you.
