Default Stupid powerlifting question

If I want to try powerlifting should I change to a specific workout routine or just keep doing what I'm doing and get stronger? I use a 4 day split for beginners I found in Flex magazine. It has 7 exercises and 21 sets per day and looks like this:
  • Monday Chest and triceps
  • Tuesday Legs
  • Thursday Shoulders and biceps
  • Friday Back, traps and abs

I squat and bench press but only do still leg deadlifts. My squat is 275 x 6 and my bench press is 205 x 5.

Please let me know if I should change anything.

What do you mean when you say you want to try powerlifting? If you want to compete then you need a routine with some heavy singles in there and you need to start deadlifting. If you mean you want to train for strength more than size, you can go with slightly higher reps but you'll still need to deadlift properly

I want to train with the goal of competing. I will add deadlifts but I don't know if I should put them on back day or change routines.

Powerlifters train "Lifts" not "Bodyparts."

That makes sense. I will make some changes. Do you think I should stick with 4 days per week since it's been working?

I'm not a powerlifter, but I do workout [kinda] like one. I like Wendler's 5/3/1 and I've seen it recommended by many top powerlifters as a good routine to start building strength.

Possibly the easiest routine to follow may be 5x5 Mad cow....just my thoughts, and I'm a powerlifter..lol i've had great success with it when I started out years ago!

Not always but we'll confuse the chap if we start getting into that

5/3/1 is fine. Some sort of Bill Starr-esque routine would be fine as well. As long as you're hitting the Squat, Bench and Deadlift and some assistance work in some fashion across a week or two, you'll do fine.
