It is depend upon body structure, weight, gender, height. Fat is important for body at a normal level. But if it increase then it create many hidden and open problems for body and become harmful in proper organic functions. In my personal opinion 2% to 2.5% fat must be contain in a body. It is an other source of energy if you could not eating at proper time.

Though, for certain people that have particular medical conditions, fat intakes at lower levels are more desirable. 15% to 20% is a decent range for fat intake, though 10% is also adhered to by some. It has to be remembered though that fat intake is also correlated to specific sports as well and some sportsmen/women consume lower levels of fat depending on what sport they are doing. 20% seems to be an average percentage of total calories that weight lifters use, though, it can also be higher or lower than that.
