The question is, not so much whether it affects a weightlifter's performance but what effects it has in general...even if a person still chooses to drink a fizzy beverage, it's good to know what's what; I enjoy a cold can of pop, when I choose to have one, but I'm also aware of the issues of sugar-laden drinks, drinks with artificial sweetners, the carbonation process itself etc.
