How long does protein powder last?
 

A friend has a 10 pound bag of Gold Standard 100% whey protein powder with about 5 or 6 scoops taken out.

It has been open for possibly 8 months.. would this have any effect on it? or would it be ok to use?

Not long ago I bought a tub of protein at a local nutrition shop that was going "out of date". They gave me a great discount on it but when I got it home I opened it and found that it had a sour smell to it. It had gone bad. I threw it out. No need taking a chance on getting sick over a tub of protein.

I use protein sparingly, and it seems to last forever, at least in a tub. Probably depends what sort of environment it's been kept in. I agree with Ryano's caution, but your nose should be a reasonable indicator. You could always try an itsy-bit, and, if you survive the experience, try a bit more.
