I've heard this before. It's silly. Some obsessive compulsive nonsense based on pseudo-science.
No one will ever become fat or unhealthy by eating a couple pieces of fruit each day.

I wouldn't suggest eating 3 watermelons a day (but damn wouldn't that be awesome), but reasonable intake of most anything isn't going to drastically hinder your gains. I have a couple beers or scotches every few months and I doesn't negatively affect me. When I drank 6 bottles of guiness and 1/4 bottle of whiskey every night, that was a problem. Excess is bad in every form.
