Meat is the key. Meat has complete proteins and packs a good calorie whallop to boot. Protein powders are fine and dandy but they don't carry the calories and fat that a nice steak does. Protein powders can be great when reducing calories, but I use two or three scoops at a time.

That's a good point Off Road. The only time I really use shakes is when I'm dieting. Other then that, its all whole foods.

Shakes for me are a dietary break, because the ones I use taste good. They are also a carrier for the other powders I take such as creatine and fiber, and a thick protein shake is perfect if you take tons of pills like me (4xBCAA, 5-10x omega-3's, 3xZMA's and an animal pak with something like 10 pills).
When it comes to real protein that I want for my muscles, it's all about meat.

Personally I count all my protein intakes like BCAA's and all. I personally have the best results on 1.25g per lb. of LBM in both bulk or cutting.
I don't go per lb of body weight because I don't want to support non muscle tissue I want to support muscle tissue.

From research that I have read on pubmed, and other sources, they say a typical sedentary individual requires roughly .6g per pound of LBM. And I've read anywhere from .8-1.2g for athletes. Again, context of the individual. For my personal opinion; you can't really go wrong consuming 1-1.5g as long as calories are adequate (context).

Empirical research - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Yeah we know exactly what empirical means, it means "their opinion based on jack diddly squat". As in they may or may not have observed it's effects even though they did not isolate any other factors and were probably influenced by stuff they read in magazines anyway making their "research" invalid. The funny thing is "research" in the true sense of the word means actual controlled studies under controlled and tested circumstances. The way laymen throw around "research" is almost as bad as the way "overtraining" and "centrol nervous system" is thrown around. Most of the broscience that is passed as "research" is nothing more than a 16 year old kid fanning around the interweb while stopping every now and again to look at porn. That's not research so let's not use fancy words to sugar coat it. Sorry everyone but that kind of thing really riles me up no end. |
