Part of my study for personal training is nutrition. Anyway the lady who takes the nutrition has studied it at University and used to be a pro athlete (in a weighted sport) and used to train pro athletes. Anyway, she was talking about post workout nutrition, and she said one of the best post workout drinks is chocolate milk. Not that pre made chocolate milk. She was saying if you melt high cocoa chocolate in milk, you will get an amazing post workout nutrition. It has the protein content from milk (one of the few complete sources of protein) and some carbs. What is everyones thoughts on this?

For a long time I was using whey and dextrose after training but that's digested too fast and leaves me with empty stomach pains unless I load up on a full meal as well which isn't always practical. In the last few months I have tried using pre-made chocolate milk and I find it leaves me much more satisfied and fuller for longer (I sound like a cereal advert
). This is obviously complete broscience as I have no nutritional qualifications but it seems to suit my metabolism and needs better. Hope that helps. LtL

Love milk. Recent convert. She's right on the money with the suggestion of high cocoa chocolate too. I personally use chicory essence instead. The caffeine gives a little kick that can be advantageous pre-workout too. |

I used chocolate milk and a cherry pie as my post-workout for years.
![]() I have read the studies but forgot them. I am pretty sure I could eat butter and rocky mountain oysters post-workout and gain. Only reason I switched to whey was for cost, and because I didn't want the calories any longer.

It's the official post workout drink of big valsalva and Viking warriors everywhere.
Umm this guy I used to know from another forum went to the Arnold a few years ago and there was a booth at the expo handing out chocolate milks. Must be something there.
