Looks like I missed all the fun!
If anyone would like to read my original post, I do tell the OP that 'meat is king' when it comes to building muscle. But, as with anything, moderation must be observed. Using the idealised and somewhat magical 'caveman' concept to justify an all-meat diet is ridiculous. It is a fad that will die, and resurface, and die again. Like all the others. Gaspers - I feel your pain. I switched to soy PI because whey makes ME fart... and a bunch of other things I don't care to mention. |

vegetarianism does give room for proper nutrition. this is a woman who is a vegetarian who competes natural. she trains at my gym so i know for a FACT she does NOT eat meat. also this pic is from 2 years ago, and she has added some size since this. but she won overall at the show this is from.

Lot of controversy on this. I have seen PRO Natural BBers that were strick veges.
Lots of soy products, toe-food meals become very versatile.

Of course vegetarians can be healthy. Most are not, because their dietary choices are so poor. Does that mean that any meat-eater is automatically in good health?
![]() Probably not. Most meat-eaters are not healthy, because their dietary choices are so poor. The key is to make good dietary choices, and have the widest possible variety of foods given your choices (vegetarianism, vegan, etc) or culture (hard to eat dog in Australia, and not much beef in India). Most people in the West are eating crap. Whether that crap happens to have meat in it or not makes little difference. Fruit, vegetables, nuts, beans, grains and tubers - these can provide all the nutrients a person requires. Likewise, meat and fish can, too. But any time you cut certain food types out of your diet, it's going to be harder for you to get the right nutrition, you're going to have to think about things more and plan a bit. Bill Pearl became a vegetarian at age 39. It does not appear to have made him waste away into nothing. ![]() It is true that many vegetarians are scrawny and weak. But it is also true that most meat-eaters are obese and weak. The simple fact is that most people have no clue what good food is, whether it has meat in it or not. Learning about nutrition and cooking your own food are good things. It'll save you money and improve your health. Eat the widest variety of food your choices or culture allow, and if you can read, you can cook, and should cook.

The best argument you can make against being a vegan(not vegetarian) is that there is no natural source of B12(nutritional yeast isnt really easily found)
That said, there is absolutely NO reason at all a vegetarian would be at ANY disadvantage for either bodybuilding or powerlifting. Everyone who argues that there is uses irrelevent factoids to support their view. Until you can show me something that you get in meat that I can't get in a vegetarian diet, it's nonsense. I'm a 19yo 5'8 180 lb vegetarian(been a vegetarian for 10 years) with visible abs unflexed, and a 1275 total. Using anecdotal evidence of the variety most commonly spat out out by meat advocates, is about as fair as me comparing my lifts to untrained individuals and supporting vegetarians lifestyles as optimal for strength gain.
