why not. its the second most effective supplement thats been proven next to creatine. your body is primarily composed of water and creatine helps you retain intracellular water during the period you are on it. it will help you appear bigger, which will help you (probably mentally more than anything) move more weight in the gym. don't listen to any dude at the gym. most people have no idea what they are talking about. i am constantly trying to learn more, and before you take any supplement you should look into the benefits vs potential risks from an unbiased knowledgeable source (aka not some guy in the gym or ads touted by manufacturers)

I agree with Eric. Creatine enhances effort and energy. Even if a beginner is using a less then perfect approach, creatine will still only help.
If I was a beginner, I would use it.

A beginner really just needs to get large quantities of quality food, the only supplement I would recommend for a beginner would be some whey protein.
Creatine will probably help, but a beginner is not going to know the difference, since lots of things will be changing. |

I would recommend first getting settled into your new routine and/or diet first. That way you will be able to discern the benefits if any that come from creatine usage. A beginner will likely be unable to tell whether they are improving or not due to its usage, and should therefore spend some time working the basics to see what is possible, that way when they begin taking it they will know whether or not it was effective for them, since it is more of a hit and miss supplement.

Here's my question. I've seen dudes flip out on this issue, and act all like there's no way a beginner should take creatine.
Why? I'm not trying to pick a fight. I can see waiting to spend money on supplements until you learn the lifts. But what is the down side? That he loses $10?

Well, there are some that just don't want to put anything in their bodies and I respect their opinion. Even creatine can put a little bit of an extra load on your organs.
The Loaf, a user over at IPYU has always been the most natural lifter I've seen. He doesn't even supplement protein and looks very respectable. I believe most any supplement is good to cycle. I personally don't see any harm in starting with creatine, but I do recommend cycling off of it just to clean our your system once in a while. Last edited by RickB; 12-10-2009 at 03:38 PM.
