Default Sugar alcohol sweetners

Are sugar alcohol sweeteners like erythritol and xylitol good alternatives to sugar?

I don't have any issue with them when used in small amounts, but everything in moderation. They will give you the runs if you over eat on them, so be wary.

What is the reason for asking this question? Is out of curiosity, health concerns or how sugar or (sugar substitutes) apply toward your diet (hunger, calories, etc, etc).

If I am not mistaken xylitol will raise B/S, while erythritol will not. Erythritol is mixed with Stevia in The sweetener Truvia

I see nothing wrong with them but agree with the moderation part. Just as you should moderate any type of sugar.

The moderation thing makes sense, but I am curious about sugar alcohols too.

To my knowledge I had never had any of these mentioned, but the other day I was checking labels on some protein bars at the supermarket, and many listed sugar alcohols.

So, what are they and why are they used instead of natural sugar for example?

There's an interesting piece in the link about xylitol and blood sugar but it's more so dogs and cats that it affects and not humans.
