Default Protein is Harmful

Posting for discussion...I think we've all read the information that high protein diets only cause issues with folks who have pre-existing kidney issues. The BDA perhaps hasn't?

BBC - Newsbeat - Dieticians say extra protein can do more harm than good

Dieticians say extra protein can do more harm than good

Quote:
The British Dietetic Association (BDA) says high levels of additional protein can cause side effects.

These can included nausea as well as kidney and liver damage.

They want clearer warnings about what is in the powders and tablets.

Manufacturers say consumers are well protected with only 11 reported reactions in 11 years.

"The more protein in your diet the more you have to get rid of."

Jane Griffin is a former British Olympic dietician and speaks for the BDA.

Richard, 22
Chesterfield
"People who have these high protein diets are now running into problems with their kidneys because of the amount of protein they must get rid of."

I thought it was very clear that a tub of protein powder would obvioualy contain protein powder; how much clearer could they be?

Plans are being actualised this autumn to add tax to protein supplementation in the UK, much of the english public is outraged by it. I posted about this a few months ago.

I imagine some of this is a drive to soften that blow in the public eye.

So they'll increase protein prices but allow shops to sell products laden with sugar for mere pennies? They'll also allow shops to sell awful processed 'food' for dirt cheap. In every store I visit in the UK (and Ireland and when I was in the States), there was an incredible amount of junk food available on the cheap.

I also notice huge bottles of cider and other booze available for dirt cheap. Presumably they'll raise prices on these as well?

No? So protein is the enemy then.

Why would a government tax protein? How would this benefit the citizenry?

Ridiculous!

British Dietetic Association = union.
