is anyone currently following a carb back-loading eating plan by chad kiefer. I've been reading through it and looks very interesting especially with the science behind it. Just wanted to see if anyone has any thoughts or experience about Carb-Back Loading. Mahalo

I am on my second backloading run. First time I went from just over 106kgs to around 97kgs. This time I started at 103kgs and am currently around 97kgs after 3.5weeks. I love it. At my size and (copious) body fat the daytime isn't too strict and I backload each night. Here's what I ate today:
6:30 - Get up 8:30 Black coffee 9:00 50grams of whey in water 12:30 Quick half hour gym session 13:00 4 Chicken drumsticks with jerk seasoning 17:30 Can of tuna with pasta in homemade tomato sauce 19:00 Some chocolate snacks 20:30 Chicken and vegetable soup with a bread roll and some more chocolate snacks Will be in bed in half an hour. The large amounts of evening carbs help me sleep better and (with lean EFX) I have minimal hunger during the day. I normally train in the evenings and energy hasn't been a problem. If you have any questions, let me know. LtL |

I also ran carb back loading for probably 2-3 months. I had good results at the beginning and then needed a break from it. I went from about 217 down to 205-207. Once I hit this weight I started to lose a lot of weight from my main lifts.
I found that I had good energy throughout the day, but about half way through my lifts I would start to crash. It was also tough for me to get in enough calories. I would do this again, but I need to do it smarter. Here was my basic day: 7:30am-50 gram shake 10 am -50 gram shake 12 pm- salad w/ chicken, and olive oil 2:30pm- 30 gram shake 5 pm-handful of almonds Workout Post workout meal-everything I could find I think for me, my body seems to burn fat better with less shakes, and keeps my metabolism higher. I think this is a great approach, I just needed to plan better to make sure I kept my calories higher. I had the same issues with low carb after about 3 months.

I truly believe that the notion of carbs before bed make you fat is a bunch of crap.
I also find that eating carbs in my 2nd meal before bed allows me to sleep better most nights and if im allotted a cheat meal i sleep really good. |

i tried it...didn't like it so much. maybe i ate too many carbs? Maybe i was too fat to start with?
I did carbnite and that was working just fine but then i stalled. my gym strength was going up, had great energy etc. i think it's best to backload if already starting out leaner. |

I've followed backloading for all of this year minus a couple of weeks, I just prefer that way of eating. I used it to cut a couple kg's at the start of the year to around 90kg bw in January and I'm up to around 97/98kg now; once you get used to it its easy to manipulate your nightly carbs for whatever your intention is.
Also this thread is full of discussion and experiences.
