Wild vs. farm raised
Which sort of fish do you prefer to eat? Wild or farm raised? I never really thought about it before but I know that wild has to be better for you, right?
|
I prefer wild caught, but buy what I can afford. Any fish is better than no fish.
|
I usually buy farm raised since it seems to be cheaper. But i am sure that wild is the best.

I always by wild. I think that it is better for you. You never know what the fish farms are feeding them.

But, wild fish is not always viable since few can afford it, so knowing what they feed the farm raised fish on makes little difference at times. |
I saw the thread title and thought it was about something completely different...

I've read that farmed contains high levels of mercury vs. wild.

I happen to work in a meat dept for a grocery store. We have a lot of farm raised fish and shrimp. It is cheaper and more "stustainable" meaning, not over fishing or damaging their eco-system. Though, farm raised fish usually have color added and you dont really know what their being fed or how their raised. I know they did some studies in China and alot of their farm raised fish and shrimp were raised in sewage water (there was a documentary on 60 minutes). Not very pleasent. Atlantic Salmon for example is one of the few farm raised fish, kept in a cage in its natural habitat, just fed with some type of grains.
Farm raised is usually a more mild taste vs wild, has a stronger taste. |
