Default What is a compound exercise?

What is compound exercise? How does it differ from an isometric?

Its research time.

Here are the basics according to Brute.

Compound: Multi-joint lift. Brings multiple areas of the body into play to complete the lift.
Example: Squat, Deadlift, Bench, Power Clean

Isolation: Single Joint lift. Focuses on a single muscle.
Example: Preacher Curl, triceps extension

Isometric: Holding a static position against force
Example: Plank, static hold

I am not a powerlifter nor am I a bodybuilder. I just want to be big and strong.
