all i use for abs is hanging leg raises to target lower abs, and cable crunches/band crunches for upper abs.
light to moderate weight, higher reps. MAYBE once a week. i have a natural huge rib cage and wide torso...not trying to make my abs bigger.

lol, i'd focus on the strength exercises.

Slow controlled situps
Planks
Russian twist
Ab wheel
and maybe Lying leg ups

They'll continue to get work from stablizing the weight whenever you lift.
