When performing a bench press, at the bottom position, you must leave at least six inches between the bar and your chest. If performed correctly, you should be able to fit a medieval bible between your chest and the bar. [DO you get this in the USA? I see this in UK gyms all the time] Don't forget: if you can lower 100kg within hailing distance of your chest, you can tell everyone you have a '100 kg benchpress'.

Supplemental rule: invoking legendary weightlifting acquaintance.
When talking to a more experienced lifter, always make reference to someone else you know that lifts much more than they do. Use this formula: (amount they are lifting * 1.5) + 120lbs Example of how to apply this formula: Quote:

Addition to Tann's rule...when talking to someone who deep squats or benches big numbers, always remark that you used to deep squat 500 and bench 400 before your knee/shoulder injury.

Rule 13 - Use a spotter on cable movements, afterall, safety first!
(*We have a bunch of ****ers at my gym who do forced/spotted reps on things like calbe crossovers, cable rows and such. It makes up some great homoerotical scenery now and then LOL)
