Default Dangerous?

I saw an article once that body building for teens was dangerous. They say strength training is fine, but if you body build you put stress on the tendons, as well as straining young muscles and growth plates. I am 16 years old and want to lift. Is there anything wrong with this?

NO

As long as you work into it and keep good form, NOTHING WRONG. Don't fall for all the media hype.

Why do you think the US has more obese kids compared to other countries. They don't work anymore like in the old days.

No, the opposite! The earlier you start, the better base you get! I wish I started when I was your age!

There are more dangerous things than lifting weights for teens. Much more dangerous things. Being fat and weak is one BIG issue.

The important thing is start light, increase weights slowly but steadily, and learn correct technique. Having a knowledgeable mentor certainly helps too.

It can be dangerous but only if you are not paying attention to what you are doing. Have great form and do not be jerking around and you will be sure to succeed.
